GE Aviation, a division of General Electric, announced in November that it would build a $45 million plant in Auburn that will make coatings for jet engines and employ 300 to 400 people. GE Aviation said at the time that it wanted to open the plant in 2012.

Tuscaloosa News highlights Woody Smith’s volunteer work in the community, in the wake of April’s deadly tornadoes.

When the early morning storms that struck Cottondale on April 27th left Smiths Machine without power, the employees and owners of Smiths Machine got busy helping folks in neighboring Coaling, Alabama. Smiths Machine recently joined the prestigious Alabama Aerospace Industry Association. The AAIA, a 76 member group, was formed to promote the growth of the aerospace industry in Alabama. This membership, paired with Smiths AS9100 certification puts Smiths on the launch pad to contract with the Aerospace Community.
